Maurine Huggins passed away peacefully at her home on February 12, 2022, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold Huggins; her eldest daughter, Lydia Huggins; and her granddaughter, Erica Alecksen. Maurine is survived by her children Fred (Katherine) Huggins, Doria Alecksen (Greg McAllister), Olivia (Mark) Rabenold, and Amy (Steve) Paine. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rick Huggins, Victoria Huggins, Charles Alecksen, Alex Rabenold, Andria Rabenold, Harold Paine, Matthew (Genesee) Paine and Julia (Steven) McKelvey, who also blessed her with three great-grandchildren Haden, Caroline and David McKelvey. Maurine was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on December 22, 1933, graduated from East High School in Memphis and attended The Art Institute of Chicago before marrying Hal and starting her family. She lived in Manitowoc, WI, Freeport, IL, St. Louis, MO, Winter Park, FL and Cleveland, OH as she supported her husband’s career and devoted herself to raising her family. She and Hal settled into their home in Eatonton, GA 37 years ago and lovingly entertained family and friends here since that time. They also enjoyed many road trips over the years to play golf and visit family and close friends all across the country. She was involved with various activities at the First United Methodist Church of Eatonton, participated in community theater and has been a member of The National Audubon Society over the years. The Huggins family is planning a Celebration of Life event for Maurine at a later date in lieu of a funeral. We encourage everyone reading this to celebrate Maurine’s life by engaging in any of just a few of the activities that endeared her to each of us: Cook a delicious meal for family and friends, go birdwatching, complete a crossword puzzle, start a collection of anything that makes you happy, donate blood, learn to needlepoint, have a complete conversation with a total stranger, make homemade ice cream, nurture an injured animal, make matching Easter outfits for your entire family, try out a new recipe on an unsuspecting guest, write a lengthy Christmas letter, or call someone simply to say hello and “I love you.” Smile when you think of Maurine. Smile when you think of her beautiful, heart-warming smile. Smile when you picture her telling you something in her feistiest voice. Smile knowing how lucky you are to have had her in your life. Smile knowing that she will always be smiling back at you.
